Throughout the week, our ACC Team searches through emails and news articles looking for someone who deserves to be the Kidde Hero of the Week…
Last week, we lost the 41st president of the United States – and what a great man he was – George Herbert Walker Bush. One of the more moving images from the week-long memorial services was his two-year-old yellow Labrador retriever, Sully, laying in front of the former president’s casket. The dog actually flew with the casket aboard Air Force One from Houston to Washington D.C. for the president to lie in state.
Sully is a service dog that was assigned to former President Bush back in June, following the death of his wife, Barbara. A family spokesman said that Sully was trained by the nonprofit group America’s VetDogs. The dog will be reassigned and will work alongside other service dogs to assist with the physical and occupational therapy of wounded soldiers and active duty personnel during their journey to recovery.
The Bush family said that they would miss the dog, but they were happy to know that Sully will bring the same joy to his new home at Walter Reed Military Hospital.

Godspeed, President Bush. And, by the way, I’d like to say what a great job my buddy Reba did on singing “The Lord’s Prayer” at the president’s funeral in Houston. She brought a tear to W’s eye, and I don’t blame him.
Sully – you and all the service dogs who bring comfort to our wounded warriors – are our Kidde Heroes this week.
