The Song Remembers When: “Somewhere on a Beach” – Dierks Bentley

We take you behind the scenes and explore the making of one of our favorite tunes with The Song Remembers When…

Well, this week’s tune was written by a group of guys that usually write hip-hop songs.

They came up with this title “Somewhere on a Beach,” but weren’t sure where to go from there… So, they did what any good writer does – went down to the beach! And, after they got back, it all comes together. Think there were any Coco Locos or Mai Tais involved in this inspiration?!

Anyway, they made a demo of the song but decided it wasn’t really a country song. But, they took it to Nashville anyway and then Dierks Bentley was the first artist to hear it. He wasn’t that crazy about the song. He said that it took him several weeks to figure out how to make it his. But, he wanted to tackle something different and this song was just the thing. Dierks says that now he can’t imagine a set list without it…

Last January, it was released on his Black album, and, in May of this year, it became his 14th number one.

So, this week, we remember “Somewhere on a Beach” from Dierks Bentley:
