I’m originally from Alberta, Canada, although I haven't lived there for 4 years now since I am pretty much living like I were dying! A lucky break that let me do a university exchange to Singapore was the starting point. From there, I traveled to a few places in Southeast Asia and caught the "travel bug!"

In 2008, after 21years of marriage, my wife and I separated. We had married young, had kids young and over time grew apart. We both thought we had made the right decision and felt ok with the direction we were going. My son Matthew just turned 9. He was diagnosed with a rare bone disease when he was four years old. At that time, we started making a 2 hour trip every few weeks to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville to see his doctor.

Back in March 2009, at the age of 31, I was diagnosed with a terminal condition. I didn't have cancer, but a problem between my heart and lungs. Within 2 weeks of the initial diagnosis, I was going in for surgery. The surgery was to determine how severe my condition was.

Hey, Kix - I’m 15 and have a severe heart problem which was diagnosed in 7th grade so I had to quit sports. At the time I had no idea but this situation ended up opening a whole new door for me!

Tara Blackwell, my now 24 year old daughter who was an amazing athelete and going to Troy University on a softball scholarship, broke her neck 4 years ago doing a routine back flip. The accident left her a quadraplegic and paralyzed from the chest down.
